Schakering (2026)<\/span><\/p>\n

Program note:<\/span><\/p>\n\n

\u201cFor me, composing music is the pursuit of an ideal that you vaguely feel inside.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Ton de Leeuw<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Schakering<\/em> is a reflection on the work of the Dutch composer Ton de Leeuw, inspired by<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

his philosophical worldview. By exploring his rich compositional oeuvre and his<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

intellectual writings and interviews, I tried to uncover his fundamental musical concepts<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

and identify intersections within my own artistic endeavors. These intersections serve as a<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

meeting point to establish a compositional dialogue. Among the key areas of<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

convergence are the utilization of space in music, the incorporation of microtonality, and<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

the profound influence of non-Western musical traditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the central ideas of Schakering<\/em> is based on De Leeuw\u2019s notion of comparing music<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

to a stream of water that is constantly changing while being fundamentally the same. He<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

discusses the connection between an ever-changing stream of water against the constant<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

bed of a river. According to De Leeuw, this idea is derived from the Eastern philosophical<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

influences that have shaped his musical philosophy. Schakering <\/em>embodies a cyclical and<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

repetitive structure, with musical ideas developing, changing, and transforming while<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

revolving around and ultimately returning to the same core.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n
